About Gurukul:
The Temple was organized in Central Ohio in 1985. It was first located in a property in Westerville. As time passed, the community was pressed for space and eventually decided to build inn1994 at the current location where there is room to expand
All events and activities of the Temple are generally held here at the premises on Hyatts Road in Powell, Ohio. All Gurukul classes are held at the Temple.
One of the three main objectives of the Temple, as stated in the Mission Statement, is to offer education about Hinduism through various classes. Thus integration of Educational, Religious, spiritual and Cultural activities is high priority of the Temple.
The Temple in its efforts to balance fiscal responsibility offers classes to young people through the efforts of volunteers at no cost for instruction. By the same token, the Temple encourages all families, especially those benefiting from these classes, to become members. This does not defray the complete cost of these classes. However, through membership, a strong statement of support is made by the community about Gurukul. Although many families have become life members, a blank application form for membership is included here. Additional information can be obtained at the Welcome Desk, at the entrance of the Temple.
The Executive Committee and the Education Committee coordinate the educational activities at the Temple; and the program has been historically referred to as “Gurukul”. Although the composition of the Education Committee changes from year to year, it is intended to comprise Teachers, Parents and the Temple Management. The role of the parents and other volunteers cannot be underestimated in this activity.
