Leicester Sri Murugan Temple is the abode for Lord Muruga. Lord Muruga is the second son of God Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Muruga is well renouned for his patronage to the tamil language and he bless everyone in abundance with beauty, youth, knowledge, power and kindness.
As renouned, Goodness manifests itself whenever it is time to subdue the Evil. Lord Muruga (Deva-sena-pati) the Commander-in-Chief of the Devas army, was born to kill Asuras (eveil). Hindusim depicts Devas as Deities/Spirits of Nature like Igni Deva for Fire, etc.... This makes Lord Muruga as the controller of elements / nature. He is worshipped as Muruga (the boy form of Subrahmanya) all around the world. Lord Muruga is also called as Guha, Skanda, Kumara, Karthikeya, Saravana, Shanmuga, Subramanya and in many names all over the southern continent of Asia spreading across countries like - India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, etc... and also across continents into Europe, America etc...Of the various forms of Lord Muruga, the Lord Subrahmanya of the puranas (epics), is the most popular in Tamil Community.
Lord Muruga is called Tamil Kadavul, Tamil God. It is said that the word Murugan is synonymous with Tamil.He is praised in the Sanga literature for being a patron of the language in different Sanga periods.This is the religious place for South Asian Tamil Community in Leicester.
